This Privacy Policy explains how Adcountant LLC ("Adcountant," "we," "us"), the operator of TidalMap, collects, uses, and shares information when you use the TidalMap mobile and web applications and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
If you create an account, we collect your email address and, optionally, a display name. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive a basic identifier and email from that provider (Sign in with Apple may relay a private, anonymized email). Authentication is handled by Google Firebase Authentication.
When you use location features (locate-me, trip recording, "best available data" for your current spot), we access your device's precise GPS location. Location is processed on-device to center the map and surface nearby conditions. Location is only stored when you choose to record and save a trip; saved trip tracks may be synced to your account so they appear across your devices. We do not use your location for advertising and we do not sell it. Precise geolocation is "sensitive personal information" under California law and "sensitive data" under Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut and similar laws; we collect it only with your device-level permission and use it solely to provide the features you request, never to infer characteristics about you, so the right to limit the use of sensitive personal information does not apply. You may revoke location permission at any time in device settings.
Waypoints, trips, notes, saved stations, and preferences you create are stored locally on your device and, if you are signed in, synced to our servers so they are available across your devices. This content belongs to you.
We collect anonymous usage events (features used, screens viewed, session duration) and basic device/diagnostic information to operate and improve the Service. Analytics include your IP address, browser and device type, the page you arrived on and the site that referred you. We use them for coarse geographic aggregation, abuse prevention and to understand how people find TidalMap, and we may link them to your account once you sign up. With your action, or automatically when the app detects a problem (such as sustained high resource usage), the app can upload a diagnostic log bundle to help us troubleshoot. If sign-in fails, you may choose to send an error report before you are signed in; that report can include the email address you entered, labeled as unverified.
If you subscribe, payment is processed by Stripe (web) or Apple (in-app purchase on iOS). We do not receive or store your full payment card details; we receive a subscription status/identifier to grant entitlements.
Our website (tidalmap.com, outside the chart itself) uses cookies and similar technologies from advertising partners. See Cookies & Consent below.
If you enable notifications, we collect a device push token (via Firebase Cloud Messaging) so we can send you the alerts you request (e.g., trip or conditions notifications). You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
If you choose text message delivery for an alert, we collect your mobile phone number, a record of your consent (the date, time and exact wording you agreed to), the texts we send you, their delivery status, and any replies such as STOP or HELP. We verify the number with a one-time code sent through Twilio, our SMS provider. We use your number only to send the alerts you set up and messages about that service, such as verification codes and a notice when your text credits run out. We never use it for marketing.
We do not sell, rent or share your mobile phone number or SMS consent with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. No mobile opt-in or text message consent will be shared with third parties or affiliates. All other sharing described in this Policy excludes text messaging originator opt-in data and consent. Message frequency depends on the alerts you set. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving texts, or HELP for help, or contact support@tidalmap.com. You can also remove your number in the app at any time.
If you choose email delivery for an alert, we send it to your account email through SendGrid (Twilio). Every alert email carries a one-click unsubscribe link.
We do not sell your personal information for money. We share information with service providers that operate the Service on our behalf, and, with your consent, with advertising partners as described in Cookies & Consent:
We may share anonymous, aggregated statistics that cannot identify you. If you tap a product recommendation, we share only a non-identifying click token with the affiliated shop for conversion tracking; no identifiers, cookies, or device IDs are shared with the shop. The TidalMap mobile apps do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the Service.
Our website uses cookies, pixels and similar technologies, loaded through Google Tag Manager, from advertising partners such as Google, Meta and OpenAI. They record the pages you view, the buttons you click (for example sign in, start a free trial or subscribe), the ad you clicked to reach us, your IP address, your browser and device type, and the site that referred you. These technologies are not used inside the TidalMap chart or the TidalMap mobile apps.
When you first visit, a banner explains our use of cookies. You consent to these technologies by either:
If you select Reject, or your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, these technologies stay off and we do not share the information described below. Until you consent, they stay off.
With your consent, our advertising partners receive the website activity described above. If you then start a free trial or subscribe on the web, we also tell the partner whose ad brought you to us that the trial or subscription happened, together with the ad click identifier, the browser identifier that partner's own website cookie assigned, the IP address and browser type you last used on our website, and a one-way hashed (SHA-256) version of your email address and account identifier. We send your email address only in hashed form.
We use this information to measure which ads work and for personalized marketing, such as showing TidalMap ads to you or to people with similar interests.
Our advertising partners receive this information as independent businesses and use it under their own privacy policies, which may include using it for their own purposes, sharing it with others, and storing or processing it in the United States or other countries. We do not control, and are not responsible for, how they collect, use, share or store information. See the privacy policies of Google, Meta and OpenAI.
To withdraw consent, clear this site's cookies and site data in your browser and choose Reject when the banner appears, or email support@tidalmap.com and we will stop sending conversions for your account. Withdrawing consent does not affect sharing that took place before you withdrew.
We retain account information and synced content for as long as your account is active. Indicative periods: account/email and synced trips & waypoints, until you delete them or your account (then purged within ~30 days of deletion); diagnostic log bundles (up to ~90 days; subscription records) as required for tax/audit; aggregated, non-identifying analytics, indefinitely. When you delete your account (see below), we delete your personal information promptly. We retain a minimal deletion record consisting of an internal account identifier, the date of deletion, and aggregate non-identifying statistics. This record contains no email address, location data, or content, and is retained for accounting and fraud detection purposes. See Delete Your Account for the full process.

We use industry-standard measures (encrypted transport, Firebase security rules that scope each user's private data to their authenticated account, and access controls) to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
The Service is operated from the United States and your information is processed and stored there. Where we transfer personal data from the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland to the United States, the transfer is governed by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum), which we have entered into with our processors (including Google LLC); a copy is available on request at support@tidalmap.com.
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide notice through the app or by email. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance.
