So you want to be a trout bum (Vertical)

So you want to be a trout bum. It starts up high: a summer storm parks on the ridges and every drop runs downhill. Check the freestone creeks first, every gauge in these mountains and how hard it's running. If they're blown out, save yourself the drive.

That's when you fish a tailwater, where somebody at the dam decides how much water you get. Read the release schedule below the dam. If they're running two or more generators, you're not wading. Better have a life jacket, or something with oars.

Every map shot is the live TidalMap web app. The storm is a real one, 17 June 2022, replayed on the radar layer. Gauge readings and the TVA schedule are from 28 October 2026. Always check conditions before you wade. Not for navigation.
